Vocabulary
Concepts describe how a value is produced, compared or labelled. They may link to the metrics that use them; the metric entry remains the definition of the number.
Evidence
How a value was produced.
Measured values come from a licensed source or an event reconstruction. Inferred values come from a model or a comparison. Curated values come from a public record or an editorial decision. Unknown means the public record does not support a value; it is not zero.

How much of the relevant record is present.
A coverage tier names the depth of the record behind a value, from event data through match data, curated facts and value-only inputs. A missing tier is labelled; it is never filled with a zero.

A confidence label separates a confirmed fact from a reported or curated one. It describes the evidence behind the row, not the probability that a future event happens, and it is never used to promote an unknown into a value.

Football
The grouping used to compare players with similar jobs.
A role family groups starting-XI roles that do the same job, such as centre back, full back, centre midfield or centre forward. It comes from observed starting-XI grids where available; a generic position label is not promoted into a role.

Football
fitba's expected-goals estimate from the available shot record.
fxG is a descriptive model built from the licensed shot and match record. It is not provider xG, tracking data or a verdict on finishing. The model, its range and its evaluation gate are published; while the provider gate fails, fxG stays descriptive.

Provider xG is shown as its own source value, separate from fxG. It is not mixed into fitba's model or used as a verdict on the result.

A provider rating is relative to the provider's own scale and league context. It is a selection input, not a fitba rating, a cross-league ranking or an individual verdict.

Comparison
A player's position within a stated cohort.
A percentile compares a player with a named cohort, usually the same league and role family. It is relative to that cohort and is not a cross-league ranking or a verdict.

The record has no shot coordinates, distance, angle, body part, pressure or goalkeeper position. The coefficients are calibrated to 2026-27 football-data provider xG. The gate is leave-one-match-out inside that season; the 2025-26 API-Football check crosses season and provider and is informational, not a clean holdout. Penalties are priced at a fixed 0.76 xG and removed from open-play counts. Own goals, deflections and shootouts are outside the model. The two ranges answer different questions. Neither is a confidence interval for team quality, a result prediction or proof of finishing skill. A discrete goals range can cover more than its nominal level. The provider-style estimate is a separate calibration for rows without provider xG, not provider xG itself.

Role families need starting-XI grids; leagues without grids use the provider position group and say so. Scouting priority is an Aberdeen preference, not a measured quality term. The current club comes from the provider transfer feed; the stats club is kept where it differs. A subsequent move outside a pool team may be missing. Rose percentiles are within the league and role cohort, not a cross-league rank. A missing or insufficient cohort is null, never zero.

Limits: A profile is not a position, a target or a recommendation. Assist bias and goal bias are separate attacker profiles. Each leader list is ordered by its own adjusted profile score multiplied by the U23 and European preferences; the goal-scoring table is ordered by goals per 90, not by a composite. The assist profile weights passes, key passes, pass accuracy and dribbles. The feed carries no crosses or chance-creation data, so those are absent rather than inferred. The goal profile deliberately excludes pass and dribble volume so it does not reproduce the assist order.
